Why have they forbidden death-with-dignity as though it's a sin?

The Sue Rodriguez Supreme Court case says we can't win,

So we may die in pain and sorrow though neither is much fun,

Not something to look forward to when your days are almost done.

This may not seem important to you now but eventually it will,

And the Ottawa establishment is still looking down from the hill,

We need leadership and binding referendums to get through this,

We are forbidden to have them and you can almost hear the hiss

How did Quebec get death with dignity and we are not allowed?

Nothing can change and the establishment feels quite proud,

Many rules, regulations and laws should be rearranged,

So that we can die in dignity with little pain and no shame.

Why should Quebec have death-with-dignity and we're not allowed?

Is this considered equality or should we keep our heads bowed?

Those who are opposed, think of every reason and rule to have it banned,

Or keep things exactly as they are which they think is quite grand.

Various religions teach that suicide is a mortal sin,

Their ministers and priests are on TV making an awful din,

This anti suicide rule has been in force for a thousand years,

This is the reason why they have to many pompous peers.

So we need political leadership to take us over this hump,

Otherwise, politically speaking, we might be headed for the dump,

Or we could move to an area that has it; if we are allowed,

Or go to Switzerland and meet their death-with-dignity crowd.

A Charter without binding referendums is just words on paper,

Not a sacred Charter -- but a lot of pompous political vapour,

Need recall for incompetent politicians and set-date elections,

We need death with dignity and the ability to make corrections.

Need compulsory voting and proportional representation,

Something that is needed in this democratic nation,

All politicians including senators should be elected,

Not secretly and quietly as now, within a party: selected.

A constitution should be voted on in a national referendum,

Not quietly passed by a group of party politicians at random,

So we the people know it is our Constitution -- not their's,

Not left in a back room in Ottawa as though no one cares.

I’M GETTING WORRIED …. JAN 8TH, 2014

I’m worried because I’m getting old and I’m running out of time,

But if I could arrange when and where and why to die, that would be fine,

But our Supreme Court will not allow death-with-dignity now,

So it’s my schedule and their schedule in conflict somehow.

And as a mere member of society, I’m not allowed to change much,

I should shut up, say nothing, be quiet and just go to church,

But the Swiss have binding referendums so why can’t we?

They don’t have to always bow our heads, say yes and please.

If we had binding referendums, we could decide what to change,

Death-with-dignity could be voted on and then not seem so strange,

But our hundreds of appointees in the Senate don’t want this,

A referendum to end their cushy jobs could be their abyss.

Death with dignity is an issue that our politicians delete,

They do it quietly behind closed doors and very discrete,

And their media moguls seldom if ever mention this,

Emphasize other insignificant stuff so folks won't miss.

And our politicians then pretend that they are unaware,

But party leaders have been told by religious folk, not to care,

Though Quebec, half of Europe and five US states have it now,

Just stay quiet, behind closed doors and come out when allowed.

We need some leadership here -- some Canadian we can trust.

Someone who is not afraid to be involved when this is discussed,

Whoever he or she may be; they should please come out of the woods,

And lead us to death with dignity where end of life could be good.

Trapped by elected oddball monsters and their party,

We have no binding referendums so they stay and feel hearty,

Years till the next election, full of their tricks and schemes,

A good responsible government is only in our dreams.

Smoke and mirrors and constant bafflegab galore,

Then it seems to get worse because we still don't know the score,

How did we get politicians who smile and spend spend spend?

How do we correct Trudeau's Charter so that we can mend mend mend?

The economy takes a kicking from those who act like they are up near god,

It's amazing but some of their strange friends still applaud,

They talk in millions and billions as if they were ones and twos,

And if you don't believe me, just turn on the Ontario news.

The Ottawa establishment want things to stay the way they are,

No binding referendums, compulsory voting or recall -- that's too far,

Trudeau did not put these in his Charter so things can't change,

And recall of idiot politicians would seem a little strange.

Trudeau's Charter may be great but I detect some flaws,

Though those who write about his Charter are expecting applause,

And there are others who view it as though it's the holy grail,

And to think that it could be fixed would seem to be utter betrayal.

And death with dignity is avoided like the ebola plague,

These words can't be spoken and if the are whispered, its very vague,

Though Quebec can have death with dignity; we are not allowed,

Because we are a very disciplined obedient crowd.

A vast majority of Canadians quietly agree,

That death-with-dignity should be in Canada and free,

Because dignified and painless death should be the way to go,

Not bowed in depressive pain and sorrow and feeling low.

Every poll taken shows that our vast majority agree,

That death-with-dignity is accepted by you and me,

But our politicians and judges take another view,

As though death-with-dignity was something they never heard or knew,

And this subject is treated with silence on Parliament Hill,

Can't discuss this death problem because they don't have the skill,

Will we ever know what they're up to and should we just not talk?

Don't ask, don't say a word and go to the nearest pub for a walk.

Congratulations to Quebec for their Death With Dignity Act,

Supported by medical specialists and pharmacists with tact,

Because citizens should have the right to choose when and where to die,

Not kept in control by special interest groups and no one can ask why.

Because outside of Quebec, Canadians are held and controlled like sheep,

Sue Rodriguez Supreme Court decision has caused certain people to weep,

Because those opposed to euthanasia have organized politicians in control,

And in this way, they control Canadians as a whole.

Quebec Bill 52 allows doctors to assist patients in their death decisions,

This is the first province in Canada with realistic visions,

The silence of our other politicians on this, is an utter disgrace,

Watch them on TV and you get the silence right in your face.

The taboo of death-with-dignity stonewalled by politicians,

They seem very silent in these conditions with their ambitions,

So the solution to death-with-dignity remains unknown,

But your doctor could do fourteen years in jail all alone.

Death-with-dignity may not be on your agenda yet,

But it will be though our politicians want you to forget,

As you get older, you will realize that soon you will die,

Though this could be a sad sickly affair and you don't know why.

Though death-with-dignity is something our politicians will not discuss,

They are too busy at the moment and don't want you to cause a fuss,

So forget about death-with-dignity because it could be a sin,

You could go to hell for suicide, so it's not a win win.

We have a great country but there is something very wrong,

The establishment opposed to doctor-assisted death is strong,

So death-with-dignity is banned and only mentioned behind closed doors,

It must be that party politicians have been told to ignore.

How is it possible to ban this subject for so long?

Why is death-with-dignity considered so sinful and wrong?

What can we do to get democracy back in this great land?

Where political binding referendums are also banned.

Where an election every five years may not be enough,

And the mere mention of death-with-dignity is considered too rough,

Unfortunately we seem to be caught in their grasp and can't change,

But if we had binding referendums, we could rearrange.

Why is doctor-assisted death so difficult to get?

And having to die in pain could be something we regret

Why can't we change the laws to make it easy to die?

Why do politicians stay silent about this and won't even lie?

How did we get into this mess and how do we get out?

Surely this is something that someone should do something about,

Because death can be both painful and something we can't avoid,

Did someone say that our democracy had been destroyed?

If we had binding referendums on this issue; would it help?

Why do I feel that our politicians won't listen even if we yelp?

Is it the preachers, the priests and other religious types?

Shouting from a pulpit about their holy religious gripes?
